Explorers wish to go beyond the confines of the world they live in. In Belle’s case, her world shrinks her experiences down to someone who should only be concerned with getting married and living a quiet, “provincial” life. Belle doesn’t want that. Like Ariel, Jasmine, Jane, and Mulan, she wants more than what the time period she lives in allows.
